Types and characteristics of embroidery thread
1、 Pure cotton embroidery thread
Pure cotton fine embroidery thread is made by twisting single strands of yarn, with about 40 color schemes, and each color scheme has about 6-9 color levels from light to dark. It can be used in combination. When embroidering pure cotton fine threads on a rough base fabric, attention should be paid to using combination embroidery, otherwise the embroidered pattern is prone to foaming and exposing the base fabric, making it uneven.
Pure cotton coarse embroidery thread is made by twisting three yarns together, with a limited number of color schemes and only 3-5 color levels per color scheme. It is generally used without splicing, with a maximum of two spliced yarns. Suitable for embroidery on linen and velvet fabrics.
3、 Joint stock line
The blended thread is mostly imported embroidery thread from abroad, composed of 6 strands. The thread itself has luster and elegant colors, with each color scheme containing gray components such as gray green, gray pink, gray blue, and so on. Joint imported thread is most suitable for making gauze paintings, velvet embroidery paintings, etc.
4、 Machine embroidery thread
Machine embroidery thread, as the name suggests, is a thread used on sewing machines. It has extremely strong texture, is very sturdy, and is not easy to break. It has a good effect on sewing machines. This type of thread is not suitable for hand embroidery because it contains components of talcum powder and paste. Hand embroidery is prone to knot breakage, and the affinity between embroidery thread and fabric is poor. It is difficult to flatten the embroidery thread during embroidery.
5、 True silk thread
True silk thread is a unique embroidery thread in southern China, just like our ink paintings, which only exist in China. True silk thread is suitable for embroidery on soft fabrics such as satin and silk, and can also be used for double-sided embroidery on glass fiber yarn. Embroidering animals with real silk thread, its unique luster represents the excellent effect of animal fur.
6、 Woolen yarn
Woolen yarn is generally suitable for Naxa embroidery, and can be divided into fine yarn, medium thick yarn, thick twisted yarn, and ply yarn. Note that embroidery on thick fabrics should be done using thick twisted or folded threads.
7、 Gold and Silver Thread
Gold and silver threads are generally suitable for making plate gold embroidery and diamond embroidery. Due to the brittle texture of gold and silver thread, it is not suitable to embroider with more complex needlework.
8、 Ribbon
Ribbon is a machine woven, finely colored ribbon. Suitable for use on thicker and thick base fabrics, it can also be mixed and used with coarse embroidery thread, and the effect is very good. If combined with bead embroidery and sequin embroidery, the visual effect will be even more colorful.
9、 Polyester embroidery thread
The characteristic of polyester embroidery thread is that it can withstand chemical substances and frequently wash clothes to reduce fading and discoloration. Therefore, many hotel uniforms, as well as some stone blue jeans, sportswear, or children's clothing, are made of polyester thread. Overall, polyester thread is more durable and has higher strength than artificial silk embroidery thread. When performing machine embroidery, polyester thread can withstand higher tensile force of the embroidery machine, which can make the machine run faster; And it has high fire resistance, even if polyester is close to flames, it is not easy to catch fire.
The thread of polyester silk is not as stable as that of synthetic silk, as it is composed of polyester fiber yarn, which makes it more elastic. We can cut a piece of artificial silk thread for testing, pull the thread with a little force, and then release it. We will find that the embroidery thread does not shrink much; On the contrary, pulling the polyester yarn in the same way, once released, the polyester thread will return to its original length, which may cause wrinkles and folds. Therefore, more precise adjustment of embroidery thread tension settings is needed.
10、 Artificial silk embroidery thread
The difference in properties between artificial silk embroidery thread and polyester embroidery thread is very small. The advantage of the former is that it has more color choices and is closer to nature. In addition, the stability of artificial silk is higher than that of polyester thread, and even if it is moved and pulled by an embroidery machine, it will not shrink significantly.
